QR Codes on Print: Best Practices That Work

A QR code that does not scan is worse than no QR code at all. Follow these rules and yours will work every time.

Minimum size Print QR codes at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 inch). For posters viewed from a distance, scale up — roughly 1 cm of code per 10 cm of scanning distance.

Contrast and colour Dark code on a light background. Inverted or low-contrast codes fail on many phones. Keep a contrast ratio well above 4:1.

Leave a quiet zone Keep a clear margin around the code, at least four modules wide. Do not let text or images touch it.

Tell people why to scan Add a short label: "Scan for menu", "Scan to book", "Scan for price list". A reason doubles scan rates.
